Useful Information for Pleasant Hill, CA

Pleasant Hill, CA is unique in several different ways from the surrounding towns and cities. Starting out as farmland, following WWII the city became a well recognized bedroom community for the bay area.

The first post office wasn’t established until 1948, and the city itself was not incorporated until the year 1961.

Even though the city was late in incorporating, the residents knew what they did want. They wanted a beautiful downtown area, and the buildings located there to be refurbished.

In 1974 the city created their Pleasant Hill Redevelopment Plan. Taking almost 25 years before the plan was fully implemented, it provided for both funding and development plans to make their downtown dream a reality.

Since the plan also laid out specific zoning requirements, the end result was a beautiful and functional downtown area. The Grand Opening for the downtown area was 2000, and the city’s goal of having an historic main street was achieved. Pleasant Hill has been recognized several times for architectural design by winning awards for this stellar achievement.
